races of middle earth
the good, the bad and the ugly
AINUR
The Ainur, also known as the Holy Ones, are divine spirits that have existed in Middle Earth since it's creation and aided in shaping and structuring it. The Valar are the most powerful amongst these spirits and there are 15 of them in all. The lesser spirits are known as Maiar and these are beings that often take bodily forms of all shapes and sizes and roam both Arda and Aman. These beings are the most capable of practising magic and are by far the most powerful of all beings.

DWARVES
This short yet sturdy and tough race are renowned as masters of stone and masonry and are almost unparalleled in their abilities to mine and to craft and forge weapons, armour, jewellery and much more. They generally live in caves and mountains and are often quite weary and suspicious of outsiders- even of some of their fellow dwarves! They make fearsome warriors, not allowing their size to hold them down and very often they are found to be quite greedy and secretive but hard-working and good fun at unexpected parties!
ELVES
The fairest of all beings on Middle Earth, the Elves are considered to be the most graceful and the greatest of skill of all the races of Middle Earth- especially those who had lived in Valinor. Elves have keen senses, being able to pick up sounds and smells far easier than any mortal. Overall Elves are depicted as graceful yet strong, resistant to many of nature's extremes and illness. Though despite their wisdom and immortality ,Elves can still be guilty of greed, jealousy, hatred and irrationality.
HALF-BREEDS
Born of two different races, Half-breeds find themselves caught between two vastly different cultures and are often shunned and rejected, hence making them exceedingly rare. The dynamics and traits of a half-breed largely depend on which two races their parents belong.
HOBBITS
Hobbits are small folk that live mainly in the Shire, Buckland and Bree. Overall they are a gentle folk who like food, gardening and more than anything most of them love the peace and quiet. They live a little longer than Men and spend most of their days in homes built underground called Hobbit Holes.
HUMANS
Men have the largest population of all the races by far, and also the race in which there is the most variety. Humans can adopt a wide variety of skills and are known for their strength which can be more than that of an Elf. They have the Gift of Men, which means that unlike Elves, Men can age and die of old age- however, Men rarely see this as a Gift and more of a curse.
ORCS
Thought to once be Elves, these vile and hideous creatures have been tortured, changed and mutated beyond recognition and beyond return. Orcs are infamous for plundering and sacking countless villages and cities at their Master's command- Sauron himself. They are often seen riding Wargs on such outings.
SKIN-CHANGERS
A rare and almost extinct race of Men that have the ability to shape-shift into one of seven animals: a bear, crow, fox, rabbit, snake, swan or wild cat. Each of the different types take on various aspects of the animal they can shift into. They live separated from other Men as they have a history of being hunted and persecuted. Many of them lie amongst the Dunlendings and reside amongst the tribes settled there. The Skin-Changers change skin as rarely as they can as shifting causes them much pain.
